Vintage Intern for Sea Star 2023

 

Sea Star Vineyard and Winery is looking for an intern to join our team for the 2023 Harvest and Vintage.

Located on Pender Island, Sea Star is known for its distinctly Coastal white and rosé wines and is committed to sustainable and socially responsible practices in our Grape growing and Winemaking.

 

This internship offers a hands-on educational opportunity to learn about winemaking, experience operating all equipment used in the processing of grapes, juice, and wine during harvest, and training in general cellar duties.

 

During harvest and vintage, our intern will do a wide range of cellar and winemaking operations, with main duties focused on crush pad operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•  Assist the winemaker with sampling in the vineyard, as well as other tasks assigned to the vineyard.

•  Perform crush pad duties, including operating and maintaining equipment, sorting, pressing, barrel work, press and tank cleaning, etc.

•  Specific functions in the cellar during harvest, including, but not limited to the following: punch downs/pump overs, juice racking, filtering, additions to fermenting barrels and tanks, barrel filling and/or emptying and cleaning.

 

We are looking for applicants with the following:

•  Motivated and passionate about learning to make high quality wine.

•  Harvest and Vintage experience and previous forklift experience (preferred).

•  General knowledge of winemaking and viticulture (an asset).

•  Ability to climb, bend, stand for prolonged lengths of time, and lift 50 lbs.

•  Willing and able to work extended hours during peak times typically 7 days per week.

•  Have a strong work ethic and “team” attitude with strong problem-solving abilities.

•  Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable form of transportation.

•  Ability to learn and adhere to lab procedures.

•  Ability to lawfully work in Canada.

 

This is a temporary full-time position for the 2023 harvest and vintage period.

There is potential opportunity for continued work to be discussed post Vintage.

Hourly pay rate is determined based on experience.
