ABOUT PAINTED ROCK

Painted Rock Estate Winery is a premium estate winery based in the Southern Okanagan Valley. Our wines are produced exclusively from fruit grown on our single estate vineyard located at the base of Skaha Bluffs in Penticton, British Columbia. Our estate sits atop a 56-acre bench overlooking Skaha Lake, of which 27 acres are currently planted. We produce mainly Bordeaux style reds including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot as well as Syrah, Rose and Chardonnay. 

Position

We are currently seeking someone to take over the role of Vineyard and Cellar Assistant.  This is a multi-faceted roll which includes responsibility in both the vineyard and the cellar.  This position is full-time starting immediately.

Responsibilities

Vineyard

·         Hires, trains, schedules and supervises vineyard workers to ensure staffing needs are met throughout the year

·         Plants, prunes, ties and trains grape vines

·         Installs and maintains trellises/supports

·         Crop estimates

·         Assists with the harvest of grapes

·         Safely operates vineyard equipment for pruning, canopy management, weed management, disease/pest

control, harvesting and irrigation management

·         Ensures that work and common areas, including vineyard vehicles are clean, secure and well maintained

·         Ensures that all equipment and machinery are well maintained and in safe operating condition

·         Procurement and preparation of daily required materials and tools

·         Monitors weather patterns and operation of on-site weather station

·         Documentation of daily work schedules and input to our online database

·         Helping during bottling

·         Assisting the Vineyard Manager with any needed practices

 

Cellar

·         Assisting the Winemaker with all daily practices during harvest

·         Operation of Forklift. Having a ticket is preferred but not necessary

·         Processing of harvested crop

 

Experience and Training

Vineyard 1-3 years; Tractor Operation 1-3 years; Supervisory experience 1-3 years; Cellaring 1-3 years; Post-secondary education focusing in Horticulture, Agriculture or Viticulture preferred
