Vineyard Supervisor / Tractor Operator (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Moraine is a family-owned winery and vineyard overlooking Okanagan Lake, located on the Naramata Bench just minutes from the city of Penticton. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and dedicated person to work with and lead our vineyard crew on our estate vineyards. The position will start early 2020 and is on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work hand in hand with the Winery / Vineyard Director of Operations, Winemaker and Winery Proprietor in order to grow premium quality grapes and make premium wines. This role is perfectly suited for a self-starting individual with strong practical skills that will take pride in our team success.

 

 

This position is responsible for the day to day hands-on farming and tractor operations for 16.5 acres of vinifera grapevines on our 3 estate vineyard sites near Penticton. 

The role includes:

  • Responsible for all tractor operations including spraying, mowing, etc and in addition, maintenance of tractors and vineyard equipment
  • Planning and execution of vineyard operations from pruning to harvest, in close cooperation with the winemaking team, to achieve premium quality and balanced yields
  • Leading a small team of seasonal workers, implementing safety standards
  • Irrigation, weed and pest control, nutrient inputs, canopy management
  • Detailed record keeping for vineyard operations, inputs, staff timetable, budget
  • Coordination of harvest logistics, pickers
  • Vineyard infrastructure maintenance – post/trellis/fencing/irrigation
  • Transfer of finished wine goods to and from the warehouse / winery / tasting room as required
  • Winery/cellar/bottling operations as required
 Qualifications required:
  • Strong operational skills in the driving of tractors and in the use vineyard equipment
  • Strong communication skills in English.  Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is an asset.
  • Capacity for sustained physical tasks, outdoors in all seasons and in varying weather conditions
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence
 The ideal candidate will have:
  • Preference given to those with an appropriate diploma in Viticulture and or to those with 4 or more years experience in a comparable role
  • Experience in sustainable practices of viticulture
  • Some experience with winemaking and cellar operations
  • Basic First Aid certificate
  • Forklift operator’s permit
  • Experience driving a truck pulling a trailer
  • Mechanical aptitude
