Wine Shop Manager (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

LA FRENZ Estate Winery, established in 1999 on the beautiful Naramata Bench, is an iconic, award-winning family winery, including the 2021 Wine Align Best Small Winery of the Year award, for the second time in the last 4 years.

We are seeking a dynamic and committed Wine Shop Manager to join our tight-knit team to oversee the day to day operations of our Wine Shop.

In this customer focused position, as the Wine Shop Manager you will work with a highly motivated, fun team of people that love what they do.  The ideal applicant must have at least 2 years of experience as a Wine Shop or Restaurant Manager. This position provides a key role in maintaining our very high standard of customer service. 

 

Key responsibilities

·        Oversee the daily operations of the wine shop to create remarkable and memorable guest experiences

·        Training and overseeing wine shop staff in all aspects of the wine shop operations including sales strategies and tools, wine knowledge, health and safety and other pertinent information to aid sales and improve efficiency

·        Lead by example by conducting tastings with customers, ensuring superior customer service by engaging guests, sharing knowledge and offering guidance on wine selection

·        Open and closing duties of wine shop and ensure team are aware of daily appointments and flow

·         Building brand loyalty by recognizing club members, repeat customers and creating reasons to come back regularly

·        Handle customer inquiries, feedback and requests with professionalism and efficiency

·        Ensure daily closing reports balance

·        Hiring and scheduling wine shop staff shifts over the entire season, adhering to budget guidelines

·        Liaise with and organize reservations for tasting appointments including tour groups and club members

·        Continuing education of our wines including scheduling and managing content for regular staff meetings

·        Nurture a collaborative and positive team environment between wine shop and other winery staff

·        Drive LA FRENZ revenue growth through sales targets and staff incentive programs

·        Promote the LA FRENZ wine clubs to enroll new members

·        Order and maintain all relevant supplies for wine shop

·        Assist with inventory counts, address any discrepancies and monitor and organise the re-stock of wine

·        Assist with DTC sales and fulfillment needs as assigned, customer contact and follow up as needed

·        Provide reporting to Management on revenue, sales tracking, wine shop traffic

·        Work with the Wine Club Manager in implementation of wine club shipments (twice per year) and to create exceptional in-house experiences for club members

·        Liaise with Marketing Manager to promote Wine Shop sales and visitation through social media posts and marketing emails

 

 

Required qualifications

 

·        Hospitality or Tourism diploma/ degree

·        WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) training up to level 2 or similar

·        Minimum of 2 years experience as a “hands on” manager of a wine shop or restaurant

·        Strong leadership and training skills

·        Serving it Right certificate

·        Must be over 19 years of age

·        Strong attention to detail, ability to set and reach/exceed goals

·        Well organized, able to multi task efficiently and meet deadlines

·        Strong computer Word and Excel skills

·        Familiarity with Commerce 7 POS and confidence to troubleshoot POS issues

·        Ability to manage, motivate and inspire our wine shop team

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven track record in achieving sales results

·        A love of wine and wine knowledge

·        Must be physically active and able to lift 30 – 40lbs

 

This is a full-time position from March – November, with the expectation of approximately 1500 – 1600 hours over the season. The Wine Shop is open 5 days per week, Thursday to Monday, from May to October. In the off-season the schedule is Monday to Friday.
