Pentâge Winery – a well-established, family-owned premium winery located in Penticton, BC. We are seeking to fill the following two positions within our organization - Assistant Winemaker/Vineyard Hand AND Vineyard Foreman.
***ASSISTANT WINEMAKER/VINEYARD HAND***
Reporting to the winemaker, this is an excellent opportunity for a team player interested in working in the cellar as well as assisting in the vineyard – you possess a good understanding of all aspects of the cellar operation, enjoy performing viticulture tasks, detailed oriented and eager to learn.
Job Description (but not limited to):
- Perform all day-to-day cellar tasks (laboratory knowledge would be an asset)
- Ability to run a crush pad, receiving grapes, pressing, destemming/crushing, cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining equipment
- Proficient in cellar tasks such as tank/barrel cleaning and sanitizing, punch downs, pump overs, monitoring ferments, racking and transfers, wine additions, barrel work, blending, fining, filtering, and bottling
- Experience and knowledge of viticulture and the ability to manage and perform vineyard tasks
- Maintain up-to-date thorough wine records (excel and word)
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years winery and vineyard experience
- Technical Degree/Diploma in Winemaking or Oenology an asset
- Enjoys working individually as well as part of the team
- Ability to operate forklifts and tractors
- Detailed oriented, with strong communication skills, & able to organize and prioritize tasks
- Mechanical skills in relation to winery equipment maintenance and upkeep – an asset
- Valid driver’s license is required
- Applicant must be able to lift 50lbs+
- Basic verbal Spanish would be an asset
- Must be legally able to work in Canada and fluent in English
***VINEYARD FOREMAN***
An excellent opportunity for the right individual interested in working in the vineyard with a good understanding of all aspects of grape growing. This person will be required and willing to perform all vineyard duties as well as work alongside and supervise season workers. This individual will liaise with the winery owner and winemaker to plan and carry-out weekly vineyard plans.
Job Description (but not limited to):
- Ensure day-to-day vineyard tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner
- Ongoing and clear communication with management and winemaker on weekly vineyard plan and goals
- Responsible for canopy management and yield management: pruning, thinning, tucking, suckering, shoot position, de-leafing, fruit thinning, weeding
- Responsible for fertilize and spraying vineyards: pest, fungicide, and herbicide management
- Oversee, directing and work alongside seasonal workers
- Maintain up-to-date vineyard/spray records
- Coordinate harvest picking and crew
- Operate farm machinery and assist in maintaining farm machinery and equipment
- Able to work flexible hours during the season when required
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years vineyard experience
- Technical Degree/Diploma in viticulture an asset
- Self started and team oriented
- Previous experience and capable of operate all farm equipment (tractor, sprayer, forklift, mowing, hedging...)
- Detailed oriented, with strong communication skills, & able to organize and prioritize tasks
- Mechanical skills in relation to vineyard equipment maintenance and upkeep –an asset
- First Aid Certificate an asset
- Valid driver’s license is required
- Applicant must be able to lift 50lbs+
- Basic verbal Spanish would be an asset
- Must be legally able to work in Canada and fluent in English
