Interested in working with a dynamic and professional team in an exciting winery environment? We are seeking a Tasting Room Manager to join our team at Poplar Grove Winery. The Tasting Room Manager position is an integral part of the team that requires an energetic and hard working, individual that thrives in a fast-paced environment. This role is a strong contributor in increasing overall company wine sales, training and inspiring employees, responding to and resolving customer inquiries, and requires excellent customer service skills along with a strong passion and knowledge for wine.

Founded in 1993, Poplar Grove Winery is one of the original five wineries on the Naramata Bench. Tony and Barb Holler purchased the winery in 2007. Their sons, Chris, Andrew, Matthew, and Eric farm more than 140 acres of estate vineyards with care. The family is widely recognized for crafting their outstanding signature red blend The Legacy, as well as delicious Cabernet Franc and Merlot focused wines and an exceptional Pinot Gris. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

Management / Leadership

• Work with the leadership team on regular promotions / events.

• Lead and inspire the Tasting room team on a daily and weekly basis.

• Effectively manage and handle VIP and high-profile clients.

• Train and inspire your team to sell wine and give a positive guest experience. 

Operations / Standards

Manage the guest experience ensuring a successful
Tasting Room workflow and operation utilizing TOCK and Wine Direct. 

• Ensure adequate and efficient staffing while accommodating hours of operation, special events and staff requests for time off. 

• Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including evening, holiday and weekend shifts.

• Work with the Wine Club Manager to reach membership goals as well as create exceptional tastings for current members.

• Work with Sales & Marketing to create promotional activations in the Tasting Room to help sell focus SKUS.

People / Staffing

• Recruiting and retention of employees that includes hiring, performance management, termination and employee promotion recommendations.

• Advising tasting room staff on wine knowledge, procedures, sales strategies and tools, event updates, health and safety guidelines and other pertinent information to aid sales and improve efficiency.

• Providing strategic direction and leadership to tasting room staff through effective communication and enforcement of company policies, procedures, and department operations.

Financial / Administration

• Administering scheduling and payroll management adhering to budget guidelines.

• Work with finance team to maintain an up-to date inventory and reconciling any variances monthly.

• Account and reconcile for cash outs, daily and weekly KPI’s, Wine Club sales and staff incentives. 

General

• Nurture an atmosphere of teamwork and enthusiastic employee relations among the Tasting Room staff.

• Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, the ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information and/or situations and the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

• Ensure, by performance and example, that Poplar Grove culture is consistently supported in all business and employee interactions, which includes both ethical and legal aspects, complying with federal and provincial laws and company policies and procedures.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred qualifications/skills:

- Passionate about wine and hospitality
- Minimum 2 years experience in management. Tasting Room experience considered an asset
- WSET level 2 or other wine education
- Must be able to weekends, events and some holidays.
- Must have the ability to multitask and be a self-starter to complete duties, tasks and projects
- Must be passionate about leading a team to meet/exceed company goals.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to set goals, manage projects, and see initiatives through.
