Vineyard Foreman (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Eaglestone Vineyard is made up of 2 vineyards covering a total of 20 acres in Port Williams and Centreville, Nova Scotia. We are associated with Planters Ridge Winery Ltd. We are seeking a passionate career-minded individual to join our team as Vineyard Foreman (NOC 8252) to manage our 2 vineyard sites, cultivating both vinifera and hybrid varietals.

 Requirements:

 - Formal education and training in viticulture/winemaking practices (advanced degree or diploma from a recognized program)

- 1-2 years’ experience in a supervisory vineyard position

- 1 season of experience with a Nova Scotia vineyard

- Proven ability to develop and lead a vineyard team 

- Experience in the operation and maintenance of all farm equipment

- Fluent ability to speak and write English

- Knowledge of soils, drainage, nutrient management, disease control, weed and canopy management, crop harvesting and handling

-Wine sales and marketing knowledge would be considered an asset

 Duties/Responsibilities:

-Apply precision viticulture to optimize vineyard performance

-Coordinate, assign, and supervise work of vineyard workers and harvesting labourers

-Maintain spray and production documentation

-Coordinate, assign and supervise all vineyard tasks including (but not limited to) agrichemical applications, pest and disease control, winter pruning, soil and yield management, vine nutrition and canopy management as well as tractor and machine operations

 -Support the winery in evaluating suppliers of grapes from other vineyards and maintaining quality control of grapes supplied by third parties

-Develop work schedules and establish procedures for vineyard workers and harvesting labourers

-As a working foreman, perform vineyard duties such as pruning, tying, tucking, spraying, hedging, etc. as necessary

-Operate and maintain all farm equipment

-Assist the winemaker during harvest and bottling

This job involves working outside in all weather conditions and requires significant physical labour

Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m., with a ½ hour lunch break, for 40 hours per week. During the busy harvest and bottling seasons, the individual may need to work additional hours on a temporary schedule outside standard operational hours 

A valid driver’s license and own transportation to travel between the 2 vineyards located in Port Williams and Centreville, Nova Scotia. 

-Salary range $40,000-$50,000 CAD per year based on experience and education

-This job is full-time and year-round

-Vacation 10 days per year to start – negotiable
