Position Overview
Volta Estate Winery is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our winemaking team as a full-time, permanent Cellar Lead. This is a hands-on production role that will support all aspects of the winemaking process, from grape to bottle, working directly alongside the winemaker and supporting seasonal harvest crews during vintage, along with any other general winery duties as required. This is a physically active position suited to someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and excited to contribute to a small, high-quality winery with a collaborative team culture. The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and as a leader within the cellar. Experience in a winery setting is required, with preference given to those with prior vintage and/or supervisory experience.
Key Responsibilities
Winemaking Operations
- Execute and support all cellar tasks including racking, transfers, additions, blending, and bottling
- Monitor fermentations and perform regular wine and must checks
- Operate and maintain winery equipment such as pumps, filters, presses, and forklifts
- Assist with grape processing during harvest: receiving, sorting, destemming, pressing
- Participate in wine trials and lab work as needed
- Maintain cellar records and inventory tracking under direction of the winemaker
Team Leadership
- Supervise and help train harvest interns and seasonal staff
- Coordinate daily workflow with winemaker and ensure tasks are completed to quality standards
- Uphold a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times
Cellar Sanitation & Facility Maintenance
- Clean and sanitize tanks, hoses, barrels, and equipment
- Participate in equipment set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Assist with inventory management, shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations
- Contribute to general facility upkeep
Administration & Sales
- Assist in processing of licensee orders, packing, shipping, and courier management
- Participate in off-site events and tastings with customers, licensees, and media
- Assist with process improvements, strategies, organization, and detailed note-keeping and data analysis
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 vintages of winery experience, with preference for those with year-round production experience
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts during harvest
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with cellar equipment
- Forklift experience or certification an asset
- Must be a team player and clear communicator
- Ability to lift up to 25kg (50 lbs) and work on your feet for extended hours
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be 18+ (legal alcohol handling age)
- Ability to follow safety procedures and instructions precisely
Schedule
- Start Date: Beginning of September
- Duration: Full time, permenant
- Shifts: Monday-Friday (Dec-Aug), Variable hours at harvest season (Sep-Nov)

Salary: $52,500 - 62,500, commensurate with experience
