Salt Spring Apple Company Ltd. is a small organic orchard, cidery and producer of other apple-related products located on beautiful Salt Spring Island, B.C. Our cider is the Ciderworks brand.
Our production is small and our approach is low intervention and uncompromising: we make and sell only organic products made only from Salt Spring Island-grown apples. Our ciders are traditional-style and tend to be dry. We are very much a niche producer.
Reporting directly to the owners, Ciderworks’ Sales & Marketing Manager plays a leadership role in marketing and sales of our organic cider and other value-added products made using fruit from our small certified organic apple orchard, which is among Canada’s most diverse.
The Manager is involved with all aspects of sales and marketing. This includes responsibility for handling cash and ensuring that we meet – and fully document –all legal and regulatory requirements.
This position is both supervisory and hands-on, so the Manager must be prepared to direct full-time, part-time, seasonal and project staff as well as working directly in sales and marketing in our Ciderworks lounge/tasting room and at farmers markets. As a very small operation, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable taking on the full range of duties, including both retail and wholesale sales.
To be successful, the Manager must be well-organized, smart, creative, have strong people skills, be flexible, good-natured and passionate. They must be healthy, able to carry heavy items, willing to work hard and able to supervise and manage others in a positive manner. Some day trip travel is part of the job. We are small but diverse and need our Manager to be flexible and able to shift from one task to another on a moment’s notice.
This position requires that the person we hire live on Salt Spring Island, a rural community of about 12,000 people located between Vancouver and Victoria on British Columbia’s south coast. The community can be quiet, especially during the winter, so it is essential that you be happy to live in this sort of place.
In exchange for full-time-plus efforts five days per week, Salt Spring Apple Company Ltd. will pay the Manager a salary of $1,600 biweekly, plus an annual bonus based on sales results. If the Manager chooses to rent staff housing from us, we will deduct its cost from each pay cheque.
As a salaried management position, there is no additional payment for overtime or for working statutory holidays. The Manager does receive two weeks of paid vacation time per 12 months of employment and several additional paid days off in December of each year in recognition of working hard and productively throughout the year. The first three months on the job are probationary.
