Head Cider Maker/Operations Manager
Crossmount Cider Company is seeking a full time Head Cider Maker to join our team. You will be part of a company with tremendous growth poised to reach over 100,000L of production by 2020. Situated within the city limits of beautiful Saskatoon- Saskatchewan’s largest and fastest growing urban centre. Our brand new facility and orchards are the centre piece of Crossmount, Saskatchewan’s premiere agro-tourism destination. We are home to some the cold hardiest apple trees in the world. Come and make world class cider and perry from apples and pears so rare that they exist nowhere else!
General Responsibilities:
Operations management: tracking inventory, product volumes, ordering, stocking, documenting employee hours
Fermentation management: juice/wine chemistry, yeast pitching, nutrient additions, temperature control
Cider transfers
Filtration
Strict record keeping
Understand how to operate and maintain production equipment including fork lift, chiller, dumper, crusher, press, pumps, filter, bright tank, keg cleaner, carbonator, bottler, pasteurizer etc.
Quality assurance and control
Supervise two full time and three part time staff
Maintain a clean and safe work environment for production and staff
Represent company at occasional functions and meetings including some evenings and weekends
Develop new SOP’s as cidery expands
Develop new cider blends to meet market demands
Desired Skills:
Extensive experience in cider making, wine making or brewing
Very strong organizational, trouble-shooting, creative problem-solving, and analytical skills
Punctual, and able to work with a team and independently
Very adaptable, flexible to changing demands and detail oriented
Accurately collect and analyze data
Work collaboratively with sales team and company owner
Requirements:
2+ Years of fermentation experience working in a commercial winery, cidery or brewery preferably combined with an education in enology or brewing
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Physically fit and able to comfortably lift 50 pounds
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must have a valid driver’s license
