Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery was established with our first vintage in 1988. At that time we were one of a very few estate wineries dedicated to producing premium quality wines made from 100% Ontario grown grapes. Today, Henry of Pelham is a 200K+ case producer in Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to work in our cellar during the 2018 harvest. (End of August to November/December 2018) The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Winemaker/Cellar Supervisor.
The candidate will have the opportunity to experience winemaking with numerous vinifera and hybrid cultivars. The role will involve assisting in all aspects of cellar work such as receiving and processing grapes, fermentations, punch downs, pressings, racking, blending, additions, barrel work, sanitation, etc.
Requirements:
Experience working in a wine cellar and education in oenology/viticulture are an asset but not a requirement.
Successful candidates are:
• Highly motivated and have a strong work ethic
• Can work well in a team
• Motivated and passionate about making high quality wine
• Able to lift 25kg and able to work at heights
• Willing to work shift hours including weekends (6 days a week, often > 50 hours/week)
Job description and responsibilities:
• Cleaning and sterilizing winery equipment and tanks
• Working the crush pad when grapes are received, including running crusher/destemmer, grape elevator and operating the presses
• Filling, emptying and thoroughly cleaning presses
• Performing pump-overs/punch-downs, red fermentation drain and pressing, and racking
• Inoculations, juice/fermentation/wine additions
• Complete work orders with minimal supervision, and/or to work closely and professionally with other team members
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized cellar
• Ability to work within the standard operating procedures established in our cellar and crushpad
Pay Structure:
Hourly wage according to experience.
