Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate wine professional to join our winemaking and production team. This position of Cellar Hand will help us continue making terroir driven wines that focus on finding their sense of place in Niagara. Our team also makes all wines for The Good Earth Food and Wine Co. You will gain experience working within two wineries, assist in vineyard activities and have exposure to all aspects of vineyard and winemaking with our small team.
This hands-on position involves every aspect of production from vineyard to bottle, working closely with the Assistant Winemaker and Vineyard Manager.
Your key responsibilities:
Winemaking:
§ Carry out specific functions in the cellar, including transfers, racking, additions, barrel work, filtration and cleaning
§ Carry out maintenance of winery equipment.
§ Work crush pad during harvest.
§ Assist in bottling.
§ Assist with and participate in blending sessions.
Vineyard:
§ Assist in all aspects of vineyard management including tractor driving, pruning, leaf removal, thinning and weed management
§ Prior experience driving a tractor an asset
Qualifications:
Education/Experience/Skills
§ Be passionate about making terroir driven wines in our region.
§ University or College qualification in Viticulture and Oenology (preferred).
§ 1-3 years previous cellar experience preferred.
§ Prior experience on a tractor an asset
§ Demonstrated experience and commitment to reliability, positivity, and attention to detail.
§ Ability to work independently
§ Experienced forklift operators (preferred).
§ Must be able to lift 25kg on a regular basis.
