Leaning Post Wines is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to be our Retail Manager
Leaning Post Wines is a family-run, super-premium small lot winery enjoying domestic and international critical acclaim focusing primarily on single vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, with a supporting cast of Riesling, Gamay, Cab Franc and Syrah. We are wine geeks! This is an opportunity to work with people who are passionate about crafting the best possible small-lot terroir driven wines.
Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
Guest Experience Management
§ Provide top tier hospitality to customers, co-workers & business partners
§ Deliver above and beyond experiences for our Wine club members
§ Manage & communicate calendar bookings for tasting room, winery operations & events
§ Manages daily business functions, POS system, opening and closing procedures
§ Maintain a clean and tidy space indoors and outdoors for all guests to enjoy
§ Ensure product is merchandised and maintain stock levels
§ Evaluates sales performance to goal. Ensures the communication of daily goals to team and reports on monthly Key Performance Indicators with corresponding observations and recommendations.
§ Keeps the tasting room appropriately stocked
§ Maintains and orders necessary supplies for the tasting room and winery cleaning supplies and assists with processing invoices in a timely fashion
§ Creates formalized training and trade training for staff to deliver consistent brand messaging. Works to continually elevate staff wine knowledge
§ Ensures the team operates according to standards of guest services program and customer service and that company policies and procedures are followed by all staff members
§ Responds to customer requests, suggestions, or complaints implementing solutions
Wine Club Management
§ Continuously deliver superior service for our Wine Club Members
§ Maintain Wine Club membership directory in spreadsheet, POS and logistics carrier databases
§ Track past 6 & 12 bottle shipments and special requests, plan for upcoming
§ Execute quarterly Wine Club shipments ensuring all logistics and payment are complete and timely
§ Drive retail team to communicate Wine Club benefits to guests ensuring program growth
Personnel Management
§ Responsible for staff hiring, orientation, training curriculum and implementation, development, supervision and performance evaluation
§ Manages the tasting room schedule and tracks labour hours
§ Keeps the staff engaged and focused on continuous improvement and has a strategy to maintain productivity levels in high season as well as in lower visitation days/season
§ Communicates with and motivates retail team to meet then exceed sales goals
§ Addresses and appraises performance, identifies development opportunities and acts as a coach/mentor when required
§ Takes an active role with the staff and the team in the Wine Club to build employee unity, being a positive example for customer experience and to evaluate retail employee customer service
§ Schedules various staff meetings, develops and drives agenda
§ Basic HR functions including but not limited to; paperwork, ensuring proper training and certifications are complete
Order Fulfillment
§ Communicate with Licensee Reps & logistics provider to fulfill licensee orders in a timely manner
§ Ensure stock levels are correct on website and fulfill all online orders in a timely manner
§ Assist with invoicing and account reconciliation
Events
§ Collaborate with Management team to develop and execute events and experiences increasing traffic, sales and wine club memberships
§ Oversee staffing requirements for all events
§ Set up and manage on-site events to ensure smooth and efficient execution
Marketing & Promotions
§ Build and deliver newsletter content; including promotions, events, New Releases, “Last Call”s & ensure newsletter list receives pertinent information in a timely manner
§ Develop marketing materials including rack cards, event order forms, Thank You cards etc.
§ Update website with promotions, new releases and winery information
§ Complete paperwork and provide logistic fulfillment for external events and competitions
§ Inform, educate and motivate staff to embrace promotional activities and that they communicate those effectively to guests
§ Track success of promotions and make recommendations for future activities.
Experience / Background
§ Minimum 3-5 years hospitality management experience, including inventory and people-management, required
§ Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience required
Required Skills/Competencies:
§ Excellent hospitality, verbal and written communication and sales skills
§ Leadership skills reinforcing operation by safe standards and policies
§ Knowledge of operation of point-of sales systems
§ Advanced wine knowledge, WSET Advanced or equivalent certification, with demonstrated ability to educate others
§ Budgeting and sales forecasting/analysis experience
§ Creative and energetic, proven passion for and examples of creating wine and food pairing experiences
§ Extremely organized, able to multi-task with ability to effectively prioritize tasks
§ Proven leadership capabilities and ability to effectively train and manage staff
§ Proficient in MS Office programs
§ Skillful with Canva design program or equivalent
§ Smart Serve certification
§ Food Handlers certification an asset
§ Experience with graphic/web design an asset
Nature & Scope
Position works under the direction of the Proprietors. Typically works with Winemaking Team. Communication can include sensitive information requiring complete confidentiality and discretion in dealings internal and external. Decisions impact the group and organization.
Physical Environment:
Physical/Skilled Labor: Work is performed in the tasting room, stock room and/or office environment with regular demands for moving, lifting/carrying/lowering up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, climbing, and pushing.
