Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards are looking to hire a passionate and dedicated Vineyard Manager. We are in the process of conversion to regenerative farming and sustainable practices throughout the property and company. The goal is to produce top quality still and sparkling wines using organic farming practices.
As Vineyard Manager, you will be responsible for the hands-on farming of our 30-acre estate vineyard located between Summerland and Peachland on the shores of Okanagan Lake. Working closely with the Winemaker and Company President, you will be responsible for leading a small but dedicated team of full-time and seasonal workers.
The role includes:
· Planning and execution of all vineyard operations from pruning, through to harvest, in close cooperation with the winemaking team.
· Implementation and management of economically viable organic farming practices
· Management of vine and soil health including testing
· Implementation of integrated pest management plan
· Operation and maintenance of tractors, vineyard equipment and tools
· Vineyard infrastructure maintenance (trellis, irrigation, roads)
· Record keeping for vineyard operations, inputs and staff timesheets
· Leading a small team of seasonal and full-time workers
· Working with management to establish and work to budgets and performance goals
· Some building maintenance required plus oversight of grounds utilizing the seasonal vineyard crew
· Adherence to safe work practices
We are looking for someone who is passionate about organic viticulture and understands the requirements of sustainable winemaking. In addition, the ideal candidate will have:
· A degree or diploma in viticulture
· A minimum of 5 years experience in or a comparable role
· Strong communication and organizational skills
· Experience with organic/regenerative farming an asset
· Proficiency in Spanish an asset
· Valid drivers license and ability to operate a tractor and forklift
· Must be able to sustain physical tasks and work in all weather conditions
· Ability to work long hours during peak seasons
· Must be legally able to work in Canada
