Chief Viticulturist - Rathfinny Wine Estate (ENGLAND) (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Joining one of England's leading sparkling wine producers as the Chief Viticulturist, this is an Executive Management role at Rathfinny Wine Estate, in Sussex just 30 minutes from Brighton. With international recognition and high-end market placement in luxury restaurants and hotels, Rathfinny is focused on achieving excellence across all areas of the business. 

Sharing the chalky soil of the Paris Basin, the 93 Ha (230 ac) vineyard practices a hands-on approach to viticulture, with a mix of sustainable land management and proactive processes. This role will drive the continual development of the vineyard, with future plans to increase plantings to 140 Ha (350 ac), using innovative and evidence-based agribusiness methods. 

The Chief Viticulturist will be part of the Executive Management team, reporting to the Managing Director and assisting with strategic growth and capital investment plans. This role will be responsible for all vineyard operations, viticultural plans and managing a large team of committed and experienced staff. 

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Applied Science, Agricultural Science or equivalent discipline
  • 10 years relevant experience in high-end viticulture
  • Proven ability to manage a large and diverse team
  • Experience with cool climate viticulture and sparkling wine production
  • Extensive technical knowledge and understanding of sustainable farming practices preferred
  • Established vineyard and agribusiness management acumen
  • Strong leadership skills and management strategies
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish strong relationships
  • Proactive and organised
  • Familiarity with fine wine cutlure and brands
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Capacity for light domestic travel
