Regional Sales Manager – Canada

This position is responsible to represent and increase the sales of all WX Brands in the country of Canada, reporting to the Director of Sales for Canada. We would like for the person we hire for this role to be based in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal.

Responsible for day-to-day management of agency partners, building relationships with key Liquor Control Board contacts, on and off premise accounts and retailers and planning the business (including annual operating plans, monthly projections, marketing programing and support). Opportunities and expectations in areas of allocations, depletions, marketing programs and product placement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manages and engages agents to enhance sales, depletions, distribution, profitability
  • Translate our brand vision and new repositioning into a fully integrated marketing plan, working cross functionally with our integrated agency team (creative development, media strategy, PR, influencer, events, etc.)
  • Analyze industry, competition and market data to complete monthly business performance reports translating insights to action
  • Regularly analyze all pertinent (qualitative and quantitative, including financial) information, extracting key insights and determining cause-and-effect relationships to make effective recommendations on the portfolio
  • Develop and implement communication campaigns and work cross-functionally to build promotional activities across the relevant touchpoints, consistent with brand strategy
  • Develops and executes regional strategic plan(s) that align with WX corporate objectives
  • Performs careful ROI analyses of all new business initiatives to align with WX corporate
  • Plans and conducts agent business reviews and joint business plans
  • Aligns brand positioning and strategy consistently across all markets and channels
  • Provides solutions and proactively addresses inventory issues, labelling and compliance, sales forecasts, demand planning, payment and credit issues, and other logistical challenges
  • Manages all product information updates (ex. packaging change, technical sheets, certificates, etc.) and complete corresponding paperwork
  • Builds and manages innovation launches to market with JPW design team, production and New-to-Market teams, ensuring alignment with brand strategy.
  • Over See Regional and National on-Premises and Retail Business
  • Develops strong relationships with agency sales, marketing, and other key external stakeholders, including the major provincial liquor boards
  • Works closely with WX Director of Sales and internal stakeholders including brand marketing, compliance, trade hospitality, finance, customer service, and winemaking
  • Overnight Travel within Canada / International markets required
  • Weekend and evening work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Other Abilities:

  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Candidate will demonstrate prior success of consistently exceeding sales goals in previous positions
  • Understanding of Customer Order process (LCBO WebPo, SAQ B2B) and order flow requirements for Canadian markets
  • Understanding of Canada Label Requirements
  • Strong desire for achievement, accomplishment, and a long-term vision
  • Strategic, analytical, reasoning, and quantitative skills
  • A thorough understanding of strategy development including brand positioning and effective programming
  • Must possess strong negotiation and selling skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented, a creative mindset and the ability to view problem as opportunities
  • The ability to prioritize, lead, implement and drive results against divisional KPI’s
  • Business maturity, comfortable in rapidly changing environments with a high degree of ambiguity
  • Ability to work independently and manage upward with little oversight
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office and cloud-based computing; Familiarity with Beverage Alcohol industry-specific reporting tools a plus
  • Valid passport, driver’s license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance coverage where applicable

Education & Experience:

  • University / College degree in Business / Marketing, or relevant industry experience
  • Minimum 7 years beverage alcohol industry experience, preferably with familiarity at both the agency and supplier level
  • Preferred: Advanced wine studies completion or certification, including but not limited to SWE, ISG, CMS, WSET, or undergraduate Wine Business degree
  • The ideal candidate should have an established network within the Beverage Alcohol industry in Canada
  • Experience building brands with a range of budgets
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing projects at once
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral)
  • Fluent in English (French also considered an Asset)
