We are seeking a Winemaker, Trius to join our Winemaking Team.

Trius Winery welcomes diverse, top quality harvest interns from around the world, each season. The selected harvest team will work at two different production facilities (Niagara on the Lake and Beamsville Bench sub appellation) which process approximately 3000 tonnes combined.

As the Trius Winemaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the winery, which includes execution of all aspects of winemaking, management and leadership of staff, promoting wine culture by defining the vision and strategy for the winery, and implementing best in class initiatives. In addition, this role will represent the Trius Brand at internal and external events as they relate to Marketing/Sales, Public Relations initiatives, Corporate Operations Management Team and industry activities.

 

We are looking for a teammate with:

  • Recognized University Degree/College Diploma in Computer Sciences.
  • Winemaking and/or Viticulture qualification, or related science degree
  • Five years' experience in Winemaking and Cellar Operations
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; exceptional communication skills
  • Passionate, driven, and has a winning attitude

This teammate's accountabilities will include:

Execute all winemaking activities in conjunction with the Trius Winery Cellar team, Trius Sparkling VQA Winemaker and Director of Winemaking, Ontario including, but not limited to:

  • Works with viticulture, sales and marketing to continue to improve wine quality, brand innovation and sales performance.
  • Collaborates with Director of WM, ON and team regarding product development and improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership and management of cellar staff including training, development, and work assignment.
  • Assist with development of vision and strategy for winery, implementing Best in Class initiatives.
  • Supervise all Winemaking and Cellar Operations for the APL barrel program, APL Sparkling program and APL Icewine program.
    • Harvest planning and logistics.
    • Grape quality assessment and harvest scheduling.
    • Assist with capital planning, procurement and equipment commissioning as required; as well managing and monitoring operating budget.
    • Fermentation management and laboratory analysis oversight.
    • Blending/Stabilization/Filtration in accordance with Blending Sessions and Bottling schedule.
    • Planning, scheduling, and executing bottling plan, including managing all bottling and shipping logistics
    • Setting and revising product specifications.
    • Creation and management of SOP's for the winery.
    • Ensure all winemaking production reports and audits are performed and distributed on time as prescribed.
    • Participate in tastings and sensory panels and actively work to expand on an award-winning program .
  • Ensure all wines are submitted to the VQA panel as per corporate guidelines.
  • Participate, develop, and support public relations initiatives (internal and external)
  • Participate as a member of the National Oenology team.
  • Represent Trius Winery at various conferences, associations and other related agencies.
  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment through the effective operation of the Health and Safety program and joint H&S committee.
  • Assures the safety of employees through compliance with EH&S regulations and maintains an attitude that all incidents are preventable.
