Cherry Point Estate Wines, located in Cobble Hill, Vancouver Island is a well established (1991) family-run vineyard and winery of 20 acres.  Producing Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Siegerrebe, Ortega, Gewurztraminer, Agria, Castel and Fortified Wild Blackberry Wine & Solera .  Grown and produced exclusively on the estate our wines are sold directly via our cellar door, bistro and distributed to local restaurants and liquor stores.

Winemaking and Viticulture Duties

Cherry Point Estate Wines is seeking an Winemaker/Vineyard Manager to assume a hands-on role to achieve targeted quality and yields from our vineyards.  Reporting to the owners, this individual will have the opportunity to work in all areas of the business. As a combined position of Winemaker & Viticulture, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the wine production process, including both strategic direction and day-to-day operations.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

•  

  • The hands-on management of our vineyard, working alongside permanent and seasonal staff.

  • Planning and executing, in a timely manner, all vineyard functions including pruning, spray program, weed control, capturing, shoot thinning, leaf plucking, soil and leaf analysis and remediation, fertilization program, netting and harvest.

  • Managing and motivating vineyard crew and contractors

  • Maintaining vineyard infrastructure & operating, cleaning and maintaining all vineyard equipment.

  • The processing of the grapes, production of wine, storage of product and bottling of product.

  • Develop and Monitor Production schedules.

  • Maintaining records as required for the purpose of meeting government and corporate requirements.

  • Supervising maintenance and repair of equipment and tanks used in the cellar operation.

  • Working collaboratively with farm crew to manage incoming fruit and during harvest.

  • Collaborating with owners to plan blends and wines to be produced.

  • Leading public and private tours as needed.

Qualifications Required:

  • All applicants considered

  • Tertiary qualifications of a Bachelor of Science (Wine Science), a Bachelor of Oenology or Bachelor of Science (Viticulture), or similar.

  • Understanding of canopy management and other viticulture practices to help in the management of the grapes from our 20 acres of vineyard.

  • Knowledge of winery, processes, procedures and operations
