ASSISTANT MANAGER

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE: Reports to: Director of operation; Coordinates with: Brand Manager, Inventory Analyst; Supervises: Department Supervisors and/or Floor Staff
WAGE STRUCTURE: Salary (Rate TBD), Cell Phone Allowance, Travel Allowance, Marketing and Promotions Budget, Expense Budget
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assistant Manager areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: Human Resources (including Floor Supervision), Wine buying, Administrative Support, Sales and Service, Staff training. The Assistant Manager provides support to Inventory Analyst, and/or Marketing and Events Coordinator as necessary.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires someone who is highly motivated, organized, and able to work independently, with a strong retail background and a proven track record of success in developing and coaching teams. HR experience is essential, certification a definite asset. Familiarity with BC labour law & Employment Standards Act, an outgoing and approachable personality, a passion for and knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits, computer proficiency (including various point of sale and social media platforms), and great command of spoken and written English are essential. Additional language(s) a definite asset.
KEY DELIVERABLES / RESULTS:
The Assistant Manager is primarily responsible for creating and maintaining a cohesive team in the store. They are the first point of contact for employees who have questions or concerns related to store policies and procedures, or who are experiencing challenges related to their employment. They provide support to and coverage for the Inventory Analyst as needed. The Assistant manager is also responsible for the wine selection, stock movement, wine promotion, product training.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires a strong presence in the store, on the sales floor as well as administratively and in a supervisory capacity. Shifts include evenings and weekends, and may include attendance at off-site networking events or trade shows. Some night / closing shifts may be required. Some travel, including overnights and trips of one week or longer, may be required.
POSITION DETAIL:
HUMAN RESOURCES / FLOOR SUPERVISION:
· Full-cycle HR, including posting positions, interviewing, on-boarding, discipline / progressive corrective action, termination
· Maintaining employee personnel files
· Maintaining and updating Job Descriptions for all positions
· Maintaining and updating Employee Handbook and Training Manual as needed
· Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information at all times
· Writing weekly schedule in accordance with store needs & labour budget
· Entering payroll hours, submitting payroll in an accurate and timely manner
· Participating in weekly Management Meetings
· Taking an active role in the training of new staff and the development of current staff
· Acting as a source of accurate and fair information regarding policies and procedures
· Enforcing policies and procedures in a forthright, equitable, and calm manner
· Maintaining a strong, positive presence on the floor, in both sales and supervisory capacities
· Practicing a “fly to the ball” style of supervision to ensure customer and staff needs are met
· Performing all opening and closing duties in an accurate and timely fashion
· Providing hands-on oversight during each shift to ensure staff are performing their duties appropriately.
· Communicating all pertinent information to colleagues and managers
· Mentoring staff to provide excellent, customer-focused, solutions-oriented service
· Dealing with any issues / conflicts in a manner that reflects the store service standards and our commitment to our guests’ experience
· Actively working to prevent guest complaints and practicing early-intervention to resolve them
· Practicing excellent time management, prioritization, and delegation to ensure all necessary tasks are completed
WINE DIRECTOR
· Maintaining International wine selection, bringing new SKU’s in & discontinuing slow movers/unavailable product.
· Direct supervision of wine supervisor and cellar master
· Maintaining wine displays, looking out for special offers, LTO’s & exclusive buys.
· Meeting sales representative & attending offsite tasting to maintain a consumer oriented wine selection.
· Managing inventory (stock take, strategy to move through products,…)
SALES & SERVICE:
· Providing consistently excellent service to all customers; mentoring and encouraging floor staff to do the same
· Maintaining product knowledge and providing on-trend and appropriate advice and suggestions
· On- and off-site event hosting as needed
