Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker, this position performs routine cellar duties related to operating and caring for filters, pumps, presses, hoses and other cellar equipment. May direct less skilled workers. May assist in the training of less skilled workers. Carries out moderate to advanced tasks such as optimizing filtration equipment requiring considerable judgment, independent analysis and detailed knowledge of the position and procedures.
During quieter periods in production (spring & summer) this role will also work as a member of our retail team delivering exceptional service as a Hospitality & Sales Associate reporting to the Hospitality & DTC Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow all cellar protocols, standards and procedures
- Load and unload trucks and press operation
- Efficient filter operation, e.g. crossflow filtration
- Chemical additions to wine and juice
- Cleaning and Sanitation in all areas (facility and equipment)
- Equipment set-up
- Basic maintenance through visual inspection and report problems
- Wine transfer, racking and blending
- Understanding of barrel operations, racking, filling and topping
- Other duties assigned by Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker Hospitality & Sales Associate
- Hosting tastings and providing memorable experiences for guests
- Operating the Point of Sale – processing orders and payments
- Daily operational tasks such as stocking and tidying the retail store
- Setting up for private group tastings and winery events
- Preparing and packing wine club and customer orders for shipment
Skills / Qualifications / Experience:
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years of cellar experience operating and caring for filters, pumps, presses, hoses and other cellar equipment
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to work weekends
- Smart Serve certified
Desirable:
- Experienced in operating Crossflow Filter, and Press.
- Leadership or supervisory experience
- Computer literacy
- Forklift experience
- Previous retail sales and/or hospitality experience
Special Conditions:
- Flexible working hours and overtime may be required
- Harvest shift work
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
- Commitment to promoting wine knowledge and culture
- Work is performed in a typical field environment with moderate demands for movement and lifting.
