Tawse Winery produces certified organic wines from over 140 acres of premium Niagara vineyards. Our portfolio includes a large traditional method sparkling wine program, world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as Riesling and Cabernet Franc. As part of our production team, you will also work with wines from our sister winery Redstone. Our production also includes cider and many other exciting new projects. We produce approximately 45,000 cases of product each year.
We are looking for an experienced Cellar Hand to join our production team. Our current work schedule is Mon-Thurs 8am to 5pm, Friday 8am to 12pm.
We are looking to fill the following role, which comprises all aspects of cellar work, including but not limited to:
• Assist in all areas of winery operations from fruit harvest to packaging under the direction of the Winemaker
• Winery maintenance and sanitation/hygiene of all tanks and equipment
• Packaging of wine, cider and spirits (bottling, disgorging, canning, pasteurizing, filling kegs and bag-in-box)
• Filtration
• Barrel filling, emptying and sanitation
• Forklift and light truck operation and maintenance
• Various additions to juice, wine, cider or spirits as directed
• Rackings, transfers, wine/cider/spirit movements
• Proper documentation of operations
• Collection of samples
• Working between different site locations / traveling between warehouses
• Follow all Health and Safety practices
• Always maintain regular housekeeping and an organized workspace for the entire winery, report damage and faults as required
• Ensure equipment logs are completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Assist with inventory as required
During harvest, this position would also include:
• Operating pumps, de-stemmers, presses and all other equipment related to the production of wine and cider
• Maintenance and sanitation of harvest equipment
• Fruit receival (weighing, sorting, tipping picking bins, packing the press)
• Pumpovers, punch downs, digging out fermenters
• Fermentation monitoring
• Pressing
• Trucking fruit between sites
• Available to work longer days and weeks during harvest, potential for adjusted schedule (O/T after 44 hours)

Requirements
• Able to work in a dynamic fast paced team environment

• Ability to lift 20kg
• Must be eligible to work in Canada
Assets
• Previous cellar hand experience
• University or College Degree in Oenology and Viticulture
• Forklift experience
• Full drivers’ licence and clean driving record
• Comfortable driving Light Trucks (up to 11,000kg)
• Willing and able to work extended hours
