Job Title: Winery Harvest Intern
Job Summary:
Join our dynamic team at Cloudsley, a winery Focused on producing premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the heart of the Twenty Mile Bench sub appelation. This seasonal role offers hands-on experience in the winemaking process during the busy harvest season. You’ll work closely with our winemaking team, contributing to the production of high-quality wines while learning the art and science of viticulture and oenology. Ideal for passionate individuals eager to gain practical experience in producing Burgundian style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Key Responsibilities:
• Sort and process grapes, including destemming, crushing, and pressing, while maintaining strict quality control.
• Monitor fermentation processes, including taking samples, measuring sugar levels (Brix), and recording data.
• Perform cellar tasks such as racking, barrel work, tank cleaning, and sanitizing equipment to ensure a hygienic production environment.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
• Collaborate with the winemaking team to execute daily tasks and contribute to production goals.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Enthusiasm for wine production and eagerness to learn about viticulture and winemaking.
• Physically capable of performing demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
• Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime during peak harvest (August–November).
• Previous experience in winemaking, viticulture, or agriculture is preferred but not required; training provided.
• Must be at least 19 (legal drinking age in Ontario) due to handling alcohol-related products.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Enrollment in or completion of a program in viticulture, oenology, agriculture, or a related field (e.g., Niagara College’s Winery and Viticulture Technician program).
• Basic knowledge of winery equipment (e.g., pumps, presses) or lab procedures.
• Forklift certification or experience with winery machinery (training may be provided).
