We are looking for a high potential leader to contribute to our award-winning winemaking efforts.  As our Cellar Master, you will execute our winemaking plans and provide leadership in our cellars. Reporting to the Chief Winemaker, our Cellar Master will manage the day-to-day activities in the Production Cellar, championing a quality first, safe work environment. You will lead a team with a strong focus towards continuous improvement in quality, process, equipment, and maintenance.

You have 3-5 years of cellars experience and an understanding of cellar operations, winemaking equipment and techniques and take pride in your ability to foster strong working relationships. Your operational abilities and knowledge are balanced by your high level of interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate employees and navigate difficult conversations. You are results-oriented and are looking to build your career in an innovative company with a strong brand that values growth and achievement. Day in the Life of our Cellar Master:

 

  • Manage the workflow in our cellars ensuring that all work meets our quality standards
  • Develop, implement and improve best cellar practices
  • Lead in the coordination of grape receival and processing during harvest   
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures and cleanliness expectations throughout the winery are maintained
  • Work with the winemakers to improve and develop SOPs where needed.   On-going training of cellar staff on SOPs
  • Learn and implement new winemaking innovation and technology
  • Execute the winery’s Ecocert (organic) and HACCP programs
  • Support the implementation and installation of capital projects.
  • Work cooperatively with the Administration/Retail/Hospitality departments to facilitate customer service objectives
  • Execute the Mission Hill Safety program including; new hire orientation and documentation, training on new jobs/equipment, safe work practices, hazard identification and tracking and currency of training certification and tickets.  Ensure any changes to process from a safety perspective are communicated to the team clearly and timely.   
  • Provide motivation, training, guidance and coaching to cellar employees, ensuring performance and quality standards are achieved.  Execute annual performance reviews for the cellar team. 
  • Ensure all employees receive appropriate training for their position, changes in operations and new practices or processes
  • Responsible for regular crew talks, safety crew talks and their appropriate documentation
  • Ensure all facets of the Winery Safety Program are understood and followed by employees

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in winemaking, international experience is an asset
  • Degree or diploma in winemaking, operations, science, or equivalent
  • Leadership experience in a winery or other Food & Beverage operations
  • Experience with HAACP and/or organic winemaking is an asset
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office Suite, Relational Databases, and Web Based Systems
  • Knowledge of winemaking machinery
  • Exceptional execution skills and a proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to continuous improvement of systems, processes, quality, and technology
  • High intensity team player who thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment
