Sales and Marketing Manager - MB/SK (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

For the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan the Sales and Marketing Manager will manage brand planning and execution for the AWSM portfolio of wines and spirits and manage a team of 3 Sales Representatives and all sales activities always observing best industry practices and ethical business methods. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

​​​​​​​Competitive Analysis & Market Intelligence: 

  • Review ongoing market trends, competitive activity, and brand performance highlights. Identify overall portfolio and brand opportunities through the creation and analysis of marketing reports, identify strategic pricing opportunities.
  • Supervise monthly actual vs. forecast tracking and adjust LE’s as necessary based on market and brand performance trends.
  • Maintain frequent communication with the sales team in weekly meetings plus work-withs (as applicable) to ensure program development and P.O.S. is targeted, relevant and fresh.
  • Pitch new products and marketing programming to the MB/SK Category Managers for new listings and image programs and working with the Graphics Designer to put together mock imaging where appropriate.
  • Preparing Monthly Sales Reviews including proposing mitigation activities for when we are tracking off plan.
  • Utilize AWSM Power BI business intelligence software to provide accurate analysis internally and for customers and suppliers.

 Brand Planning & Execution:

  • Manage annual brand planning, forecasting and A&P budgeting for all brands in MB/SK. Participate in western A&P reviews to stay within brand budgets and re-allocate funds as needed to maximize market activity.
  • Measure and report on quarterly marketing programming.
  • Work closely with logistics to ensure inventory is available for programmed skus and Business & Costing Analyst to ensure pricing is accurate.
  • Manage quarterly sales presentations and all quarterly marketing materials, updating PAWA spending plans and collaborating with the Marketing and Events Coordinator to ensure programming is up-to-date and executed on-time.
  • Cooperative development and planning with western marketing team and sales management for brand plans, marketing applications, supplier and key account presentations, promotional materials, and sales tools, ensuring they meet AWSM standards, are complete and delivered on time.
  • Prepare quarterly meeting presentation to motivate and inspire the activities of the sales force in relation to marketing initiatives.
  • Propose quarterly goals and targets in line with western Sales Managers, review portfolio opportunities and new product options.
  • Communicate with suppliers as the main point of contact for MB/SK to review day-to-day issues and provide regular brand updates.

Sales Management

  • Manage 3 Field Sales Representatives, including daily activities, routine coaching and training to meet AWSM execution standards, reporting, ongoing performance management and periodic formal performance reviews, reporting to senior management.
  • Create and execute sales activity plans driven towards meeting monthly, quarterly and annual sales objectives, taking responsibility to use AWSM business intelligence systems to monitor performance vs F1 and ongoing adjusted landing volume forecasts.
  • Report monthly on sales performance, providing a mitigation report for remedial action to reach sales objectives as needed.
  • Manage, train and support sales team in the use of AWSM’s XRM CRM system, be a ‘power-user’ and ensure activities are entered for accurate performance review and coaching.
  • Lead quarterly sales and marketing roll-out meetings and work with Marketing and Events Coordinator to ensure materials are provided to salespeople within agreed timescales.
  • Participate in coordinated sales approach with Key Account Managers, Salespeople and other Marketing Managers for major key accounts and buyers in MB/SK.
  • Report to management team on market conditions, competitor activity, account openings/closures and be a provincial touchpoint for general market information.

Management/Administrative Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain accurate and current data and systems within AWSM business intelligence and marketing IT systems. Create and monitor forecasts and spending plans using PAWA.
  • Oversee supplier itineraries for MB/SK, working with Marketing Coordinator and Management colleagues to plan supplier in-market activities.
  • Manage personal and team expenses/approvals and any promotional spending within company guidelines.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience: University degree (BCom preferred) in Marketing or equivalent discipline and/or minimum of 3-4 years sales or marketing experience with a large wine portfolio or other important consumer products.  You will have a portfolio of examples of your work to date. 
  • Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must be highly organized, and display excellent motivation and leadership abilities.  You should be prepared to provide examples of your written work.  You must have excellent PC skills (Windows: Word/Excel) and be able to extensively use the CH/AWSM IT applications for sales and planning activities.  Must be able to juggle multiple situations and be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Knowledge:  Working knowledge of the marketing of wine or of an important consumer brand.  Successful completion of several wine and spirit courses is desirable (such as WSET).
  • Physical: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and travel (includes overnight stays).  Must be physically fit and be able to lift and carry 41+ pounds and able to build displays or handle heavy POS material.
  • Other: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license in the Province employed and must meet the Company’s automobile insurance requirements.  Must have and maintain a valid Canadian Passport.

Other Preferred Job Qualifications: Existing marketing trade relationships within the wine, spirit, hospitality industry.  Minimum 3-5 years marketing experience overall.  Membership in a professional marketing association.
