Positional Overview
The Accounting Manager oversees all financial operations for an Oliver-based winery, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong financial controls across vineyard, production, retail, and wholesale channels. This role supports strategic decision‑making by providing timely financial insights and partnering closely with operations, viticulture, sales, and executive leadership. This is a hybrid role with some remote work possible.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze production costs, COGS, inventory valuation, and margin performance across wine programs.
- Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
- Maintain detailed cost accounting for vineyard operations, winemaking, bottling, and packaging.
- Oversee perpetual inventory systems for bulk wine, finished goods, packaging, and tasting room merchandise.
- Coordinate physical inventory counts and reconcile variances.
- Monitor yield, loss, and production efficiency metrics.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) reporting requirements.
- Manage excise tax filings, provincial liquor markups, and environmental fees.
Cash Flow & Treasury
- Monitor daily cash flow and prepare short‑ and long‑term cash projections.
- Manage banking relationships and support financing activities.
- Oversee AP/AR cycles, credit policies, and vendor management.
Leadership & Team Management
- Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting policies.
Requirements
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or beverage alcohol is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, and inventory systems.
- Experience with accounting systems (QBO), POS systems (Commerce 7, Ollie) and winery management software (Vintrace) is an advantage.
- Advanced Excel skills and
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
