Job Overview

We are seeking an Assistant Cidermaker to join our team! Interested in a career in cidermaking, winemaking or brewing? Do you love the idea of working on a farm and producing award-winning cider? Then we’d love to hear from you! 

As the Assistant Cidermaker, you will play an important role in meeting daily cidermaking targets and crafting award-winning cider! Your work week will focus on all types of cidermaking activities, including preparing juice, pitching yeast, clarifying batches, preparing adjuncts, blending, chilling and monitoring fermentation under the direction of the Head Cidermaker.  Some assistance with packaging operations will also be required as  needed. Recording batch information, testing, and helping with process improvements are also part of the job, as are cleaning and sanitizing, and more cleaning and sanitizing. Comprehensive training is provided.

Schedule: Full time, four or five day work weeks, year round. Eg. Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm or Monday to Thursday 7:30am to 5:30pm

Requirements

This position is suited to someone who loves daily physical labour, is a stickler for cleanliness and following procedures, and loves cider! In addition, the position requires:

  • Education:  Certification or post secondary diploma in related field - required.
  • Vocational experience: At least one year of cidermaking, winemaking or brewing experience - preferred. Experience in lab testing - preferred..
  • Equipment experience: The ability to operate or learn how to operate pumps, filters and forklifts. Experience with lab testing equipment is an asset.
  • Software: familiarity with database and spreadsheet software - preferred.
  • Communication skills: excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Personal aptitude: initiative and a sense of accountability for meeting team goals.  Curiosity, great listening skills and openness to feedback. Ability to work well with others and to jump in to help when needed.  
  • Work week flexibility: Able to work five 7.5 hour days Monday to Friday or four 9.5 hour days; willing to work flexible hours at times to meet the needs of the business.
  • Physical requirements: The physical strength to safely and manually lift up to 25 kg several times daily and the physical stamina to work standing up all day. Willingness to work in cold and wet conditions at times.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • A desire to work for a business that is growing and seeking to continually improve.

Determined based on experience.
