Job Overview
Azhadi Vineyards is a new destination winery under construction and scheduled to open Fall 2025 in Kelowna, BC. Azhadi Vineyards is a privately held company within the Azhadi Group, a group of companies which develops and operates wineries and vineyards throughout the Okanagan Valley, including the established Ex Nihilo Vineyards in Lake Country, BC.
Position Summary
Azhadi Vineyards is seeking an Assistant Winemaker to contribute to the development of premium wines of the Azhadi Group. The ideal candidate is a not only passionate about winemaking, but a detail-oriented, innovative team player seeking a dynamic role in a growing organization. This role is responsible for working with winemaking team to produce exceptional premium wines for two distinct wineries.
Key Responsibilities
Harvest and winemaking activities
- Assist with receiving, sorting, crushing, pressing grapes
- Monitor fermentation progress
- Must, juice and wine additions
- Maintain detailed records of all winemaking activities
Cellar operations
- Barrel maintenance including blending, racking and transferring wine
- Cleaning and sanitization of all winery equipment
- Maintaining clean, organized cellar
- Compliance with safety procedures and protocols
Equipment operations
- Experience working with variety of cellar equipment including forklifts
- Working knowledge of winery equipment and troubleshooting as required.
Requirements
Personal Attributes
- Physically fit and comfortable lifting 50 lbs
- Withstand working on your feet for long periods of time
- Developed sensory evaluation skills
- Organized, communicative, and solution-oriented.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Oenology or Food Science, preferred
- Minimum 3 harvests of experience
- Proven leadership and team development skills.
- Flexible availability. Certain periods of the year require more hours and accordingly, we request a flexible schedule from our people and ability to work longer hours and varying shifts and weekends during harvest season.
- Valid driver’s license
Compensation
$58,000 - $63,000 plus extended health and dental benefits, bonus plan
