Job Overview

Monte Creek Winery is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, temporary contract role as Harvest Cellar Hand. Monte Creek is located in the South Thompson valley, 20 minutes east of Kamloops, British Columbia. Monte Creek has 75 acres planted in South Thompson, with an additional 30 acres in the Similkameen valley. We expect to process upwards of 400 tons this coming vintage.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a rapidly growing winery and work with a dynamic and passionate team who also like to keep fit and have fun. Our objective is to produce premium wines that reflect and respect our unique terroir. This position reports to the Winemaker and cellar supervisors, and will provide opportunity to expand winemaking skills and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform winemaking and cellar activities, including but not limited to racking, blending, filtration, and barrel work
  • All harvest activities, including but not limited to fruit receipt, sorting, destemming, pressing, sampling, and fermentation
  • Maintain the cellar to the highest degree of cleanliness and sanitation at all times
  • Assist with cellar equipment repair and maintenance
  • Assist the vineyard and hospitality departments when required
  • Assist with lab analysis when required

This is a 10 week contract with the possibility of extension.  On-site housing shared rental unit may be available depending on the situation and terms of agreement.

Requirements

  • Previous harvest experience is an asset
  • Minimum class 5 driver’s license and/or transportation to and from work
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, work in inclement weather, at heights, within confined spaces, and work on their feet for long periods of time in physically demanding conditions
  • Able to follow standard operating procedures, safe work procedures, and work orders
  • Able to maintain a positive attitude
  • Forklift proficiency is an asset
  • Working proficiency in English

    Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise legally able to work in Canada with the appropriate work visa. Applicants without this status will not be considered.

Compensation

$20.00 - $24.00 CAD / hour
