Position Overview
Leaning Post Wines is seeking an organized, customer-focused, and knowledgeable Retail Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our retail wine shop. The Retail Manager will play a key role in creating an exceptional customer experience while ensuring the retail space is well-stocked, organized, and operating efficiently.
This position is responsible for retail sales and service, inventory management, merchandising, staff coordination, and the accurate preparation and fulfillment of licensee and wholesale orders. The ideal candidate is passionate about wine, enjoys working with customers and a team, and is comfortable balancing hands-on retail responsibilities with administrative and operational duties.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the retail shop, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and professional environment.
- Provide exceptional customer service and assist customers with wine selections based on their preferences, occasions, and budgets.
- Develop strong relationships with customers and encourage repeat business.
- Maintain attractive and organized retail displays, shelves, signage, and promotional areas.
- Monitor retail inventory levels and communicate purchasing or replenishment needs.
- Ensure accurate pricing, labeling, and product information throughout the retail space.
- Monitor product quality, condition, and storage to ensure wines are properly handled.
- Operate the point-of-sale system and ensure accurate processing of sales, returns, exchanges, and customer accounts.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and daily reconciliation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized retail environment.
Licensee & Wholesale Orders
- Prepare and fulfill orders for licensed accounts, including restaurants, bars, and other wholesale customers.
- Pick, organize, and verify wine orders against invoices or order sheets for accuracy.
- Ensure licensee orders are properly packaged, labeled, staged, and ready for delivery or pickup.
- Coordinate with team to ensure orders are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between orders, inventory, and invoices.
- Assist with inventory checks and product allocation to ensure availability for both retail and licensee customers.
Inventory & Merchandising
- Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with inventory reconciliation.
- Monitor fast-moving and slow-moving products.
- Assist with inventory receiving and maintaining accurate stock levels in the POS/inventory system.
- Create and maintain engaging product displays that support sales and highlight featured wines.
- Ensure wines are stored appropriately and according to company standards.
- Assist with inventory organization in retail and storage areas.
Wine Knowledge & Customer Experience
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the wines carried by Leaning Post Wines, including producers, regions, grape varieties, vintages, and styles.
- Conduct tastings and provide product education to customers and staff when appropriate.
- Assist with wine club, special orders, events, promotions, and other retail initiatives.
- Help develop creative ways to increase retail sales and customer engagement.
- Stay current with new arrivals, seasonal products, and changes to the retail selection.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with retail events, tastings, and promotional activities.
- Coordinate customer special orders and ensure timely fulfillment.
- Respond to customer inquiries in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Maintain accurate records and complete retail-related administrative tasks.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable liquor laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Assist with other winery, retail, warehouse, or operational duties as required.
- Work closely with management and other departments to ensure smooth overall winery operations.
Qualifications
- Previous retail, hospitality, wine, or customer service management experience.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of wine.
- Previous experience working with inventory and/or order fulfillment.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while also being an effective team leader.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Ability to lift and move cases of wine at 35+ lbs and stand for extended periods
Requirements
- Valid Drivers License
- Smart Serve certification is a requirement
Compensation
Salary is negotiable depending on experience
