Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team! The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records for Ex Nihilo Vineyards and reports to the Group Director of Finance. This position supports all aspects of full-cycle accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and compliance. The Senior Accountant is a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, demonstrates sound judgment, and contributes to a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability. Only residents of the Okanagan will be considered at this time as we work with a hybrid model.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

·        Perform all full-cycle accounting functions including banking, accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and related communications with vendors and customers.

·        Complete account reconciliations for operating accounts, intercompany accounts, credit cards, financing, capital assets, and amortization schedules.

·        Reconcile daily cash reporting and sales across multiple channels.

·        Maintain accurate and timely recording of cost of goods sold (COGS) related to sales.

Inventory & Production Accounting

·        Perform production costing and inventory tracking for both vineyard and winery operations.

·        Analyze inventory counts and reconciliations, working closely with operations teams to ensure accuracy and identify opportunities for improvement.

Sales Accounting

·        Record and reconcile revenue from all sales platforms.

·        Perform accounts receivable follow-up as required to maintain positive cash flow and customer relationships.

Payroll & HR Administration

·        Process bi-weekly payroll through the PUSH system, including gratuities.

·        Administer the employee benefits program and liaise with third-party benefit providers.

·        Support onboarding and offboarding processes within PUSH, including preparation of ROEs.

·        Assist with LMIA and foreign worker documentation and compliance.

Compliance & Statutory Reporting

·        Prepare and file compliance reports for GST, PST, Excise, EHT, Worksafe, BCLDB, and AGLC.

·        Ensure adherence to all statutory and financial reporting requirements.

Reporting & Analysis

·        Prepare monthly and periodic financial statements and management reports.

·        Develop dashboards and analytics to support data-driven decision-making.

·        Collaborate with external accountants for year-end preparation.

·        Lead annual operating plan preparation and provide analytical support to department managers.

Continuous Improvement

·        Assess opportunities for business or system process improvements and increased efficiencies.

·        Create and maintain documentation of internal processes and controls.

Requirements

·        Post-secondary education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field.

·        Individual working towards CPA or possess CPA designation is a plus

·        Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within hospitality, agriculture, or manufacturing sectors, although not required.

·        Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.

·        Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills; experience with PUSH (or HRIS, payroll software) and SAGE considered an asset.

·        Adaptability to learning new software and programs.

·        Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

·        High attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability.

·        Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Compensation

The typical hiring range for this position is from $65,000-$75,000, the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, and internal equity.
