The Vineyard Manager position is a key leadership role within vineyard operations, responsible for supervising vineyard crews and executing seasonal viticulture  programs. This position supports vineyard management through hands-on leadership, technical  expertise, and accurate vineyard monitoring and reporting. The successful candidate will have strong experience in cool-climate viticulture, crew supervision, and best practices specific to British Columbia vineyards. 

JoieFarm currently owns 80 acres of vineyard and plans on continuing to purchase more acres if the right opportunity comes along. Therefore, there is potential for growth in this position as Joie grows.

Vineyard Management

• Manage a total of 50 acres planted with a variety of varietals.
• Maintain the equipment, properties, and buildings on both vineyard properties.
• Execute and oversee seasonal vineyard activities including pruning, shoot thinning,  canopy management, leaf removal, cluster thinning, and harvest operations. 
• Manage scheduling and coordination of vineyard tasks in alignment with vineyard  management plans.
• Support irrigation management, frost protection, and heat mitigation strategies.
• Assist with fertilizer, soil amendment, and compost applications in accordance with  BC Ministry of Agriculture guidelines.
  

Pest, Disease & Vine Health Management 

• Monitor vine health and phenology throughout the growing season.
• Conduct regular vineyard scouting for pests and diseases common to BC vineyards,  including powdery mildew, botrytis, and leafhoppers. 
• Assist with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and spray program execution and  record-keeping.
• Identify and report vine stress, nutrient deficiencies, and weather-related risks.
  

Equipment, Compliance & Safety

• Safely operate and oversee the use of vineyard equipment including tractors, ATVs,  sprayers, and hand tools.
• Ensure compliance with provincial regulations related to pesticide use, equipment  operation, and worker safety.
• Assist with maintenance and organization of vineyard equipment and infrastructure.

Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW)

• Manage TFW crew and ensure we are compliant with all TFW policies.
• Lead, train, and supervise TFW crew to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and up to quality standards.
• Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and provide hands-on coaching and  feedback.
• Support onboarding and training of seasonal and returning vineyard staff.
• Enforce WorkSafeBC health and safety standards and vineyard safety protocols.
• Ensure TFW payroll is entered in PayWorks according to payroll schedule.

Data Collection and Reporting

• Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of sustainable farming certification initiatives (including Sustainable Winegrowing BC), and actively follow the Company’s sustainable farming practices once certified.
• Collect and verify vineyard data including yield estimates, crop load assessments,  berry sampling, and maturity data.
• Collect accurate vineyard records related to spray applications, irrigation, labour, and vineyard performance and submit to the Lead Vineyard Manager in a timely manner.
• Support internal reporting, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance  requirements.
• Collect and report data as it pertains to maintaining SWGBC.
  

Preferred

• Fluency in the Spanish language is preferred.
• Formal education in viticulture, agriculture, or a related field.
• Applicator certification or experience with spray programs.
• Experience with vineyard management software or data collection tools
• Familiarity with sustainable, organic, or environmentally responsible vineyard practices 
• Heavy trailer endorsement license for hauling equipment, fruit, vineyard material.

Working Conditions 

This is a physically demanding, outdoor role requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, and  equipment operation for extended periods. Work hours may include early mornings, weekends,  and extended hours during peak growing and harvest periods -- ability to be “on-call” and work long hours as required.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 (*) per annum, commensurate with experience.
